Victoria Falls is a town in the western portion of Zimbabwe, across the border from Livingstone, Zambia, and near Botswana. The Victoria Falls Airport is located 18 km south of the town and has international services to Johannesburg and Namibia.zimbabwe-world-map

It took thousands of years of erosion for Victoria Falls to appear as and where it does now. Mosi-oa-Tunya, or “the smoke that thunders” became known to the western world as Victoria Falls only after David Livingstone first set eyes on this astonishing natural wonder in 1855.

Tips

  • Consult your doctor 4 to 6 weeks before your travel to ensure all precautionary medication and vaccinations are taken care of.

  • Some important items to carry during your trip are insect repellent, torch light and a cap/hat.

  • Zimbabwe dollar (ZWD) is not the widely used currency at Victoria Falls therefore its safer to carry sufficient USD ($) which is most commonly accepted at tourist attractions.

  • Very few vendors in Zimbabwe have credit card facilities. Mastercard do not operate in Zimbabwe, and Visa look set to withdraw the facility at any moment.
  • Carry small denominations of international currency. This makes paying for bills easy, and purchasing curios and gifts even easier.
  • Meals and Drinks bills need to settled on departure from the hotel in international currency.
  • Travellers Cheques can be used to pay for bills on the departure from hotels. Do not use Travellers Cheques for foreign exchange.

    Lunar Rainbow Experience at Victoria Falls

    The Victoria Falls are one of the few places on earth where this natural phenomenon, mystical magic of the lunar rainbow occurs regularly and where it can be witnessed with ease.

    The lunar rainbow is best seen at times of high water (April to July) when there is sufficient spray to create the moonbow effect. This spectacle is best witnessed in the early hours after moonrise, before the moon rises too high to create a moonbow that is visible to the ground-based observer.
